Deloraine House is set in the middle of the 5,000 acre commercial farm at 6,000 ft. on the lower slopes of Londiani Mountain. It has a forest and bamboo shrouded volcano, on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley.
The home was built in 1920 by Lord Francis Scott, a prominent early settler, and has to be one of the grandest examples of colonial architecture in the country. The house is run by the family who offer the Masai Mara safaris and serves their home and base. They welcome guests with wonderful hospitality, and it’s a fantastic way to experience more of Kenya following a safari.
From Deloraine, more riding including polo can be arranged, and day visits to Lake Nakuru or Lake Bogoria.
There is no set length of stay or itinerary. Deloraine is situated on the western side of the Rift Valley at Rongai, ten minutes off the main Nakuru-Kericho road, and is ideally situated for safaris coming from the east of the Rift Valley on their way to the Masai Mara. Lakes Nakuru, Bogoria and Baringo are within easy reach and a day spent on the farm is never wasted. One, two or three night stays are recommended as it is a unique experience to sample a bit of colonial history during a safari to East Africa. During you’re your time at Deloraine we highly recommend you take a half or full day trip to Lake Nakuru National Park which covers an area of 188 km2 and is world famous for its spectacular flamingos, as well as its healthy population of rhinos.
